Discover the 2025 Transformative Projects

We’re pleased to share the 8 Transformative Projects our students have chosen to work on starting from September 2025 as part of their third semester.

Transformative Projects are a key part of the Master in Sustainable Management & Technology, offered jointly by HEC-UNIL, IMD and EPFL. In teams of 3, students collaborate with external partners to address real-world challenges at the intersection of sustainability, technology, and management.

This year, the selected topics explore a wide range of critical issues—from climate risk and carbon sequestration to sustainable tourism and digital innovation:
🔹 Africa Specialty Risks – Insurance solutions to encourage Nature-based Solutions (NbS) investments in Africa
🔹 Beyond – Sustainability reporting streamlined with digital technologies
🔹 CA Next Bank – Mapping physical risks and adaptation strategies in the built environment
🔹 DGAV / Foodward – Creating a new value chain for Swiss whey (petit-lait) production
🔹 Fondation Valéry – Financing sustainable carbon sequestration: “Biochar-as-a-Service” for Swiss farmers
🔹 Finhaut – Sustainable tourism development in the mountain village of Finhaut
🔹 InPact – Nuclear power in sustainable finance: Decarbonization benefits vs. long-term environmental considerations
🔹 Pictet – Building a climate-aligned portfolio through asset pricing and scenario analysis

A sincere thank you to all the partner organizations for proposing such inspiring and forward-thinking topics — we’re looking ahead to a great collaboration!
