Heat Pump Investment Day
Accelerating the deployment of heat pumps in Romandie
On September 2nd, E4S gathered key stakeholders from Geneva and Lausanne to discuss the potential of institutional investment, combined with state support, to scale up heat pump rollout across Romandie. Heating accounts for 70% of building energy use in Switzerland and ~22% of national CO₂ (mainly oil & gas). Heat pumps (PAC) already equip ~75% of new buildings, but penetration in the existing stock—especially multi-family and commercial—is still low. The pathway to ~1.5 million PACs by 2050 makes PACs a backbone of net-zero heating.
Key learnings:
- The technological solution is here: heat pumps are ready to deliver
- The benefits are clear: lower costs in the long term, higher value and net-zero progress
- The challenge is systemic: scaling up requires collaboration across all actors
- The future of heating in Switzerland is within reach: let’s invest in our future!
