
The Case for Reopening Economies by Sector
There are a variety of ways political leaders can handle the Covid-19 crisis, from a lengthy lockdown to phased-in returns by age, geography or industry. An analysis by a group of economists suggests that, assuming that minimum epidemiological standards are met, a sequential opening of national economies by sector — starting with those least likely to generate a substantial resurgence of the virus within each national economy — is the most promising.
