In Switzerland, shops were closed for almost two months due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The project “Monitoring Consumption Switzerland” has examined consumer behaviour after the opening, with differences in sectors and regions.

The researchers (from the University of St. Gallen (Martin Brown, Matthias Fengler) and Novalytica together with Robert Rohrkemper (Senior Data Scientist, Worldline) and Rafael Lalive (University of Lausanne, E4S) used payment data to shed light on consumer spending in Switzerland and how this is impacted by the Covid-19 crisis.
